There's No Place Like Home!

We got power back at our house! We actually got a phone call from Centerpoint "confirming" our power was back up. The ironic thing is we were headed to Katy from Bellville to get out of the house and right about the time we made it in to Katy on I-10, we got the phone call! So we went ahead and spent some time out and about in Katy (we wanted to confirm with neighbors that our power was truly on), then headed home. Yesterday we went grocery shopping to restock everything we lost from the power being out. The house is mostly back to normal at this point. We still have a little work to do on one of our fences. Again, we are counting our blessings!!!

Poor Benny-Bear (as Aunt Lani calls him) has had a really rough time sleeping the past week and a half. He slept terribly while we were away from home. I thought it was just because we weren't at home, but since we've been home... things have gotten worse. Last night he was up 4 or 5 times. The poor little guy is teething, congested and having tummy problems all at the same time. Needless to say Jason and I are exhausted! We had to miss Ben's 6 month pediatrician appointment due to him being sick two days before the storm and then the storm has caused even more delay. I'm hoping to get him in next week.... hopefully Dr. Kagan can give me some pointers to get him to sleep better!!!! Here's to hoping!

I just wanted to let everyone know our experience with Ike. I'll start by saying we are EXTREMELY blessed. Last Wednesday Ike was sill predicted to head to Corpus and Jason's "weather guy", Bob, at work gave an update that it would be headed to Galveston as a Cat. 4. He also said that the National Hurricane Center wasn't going to publish the information to the public until later that day and that there would probably be mass chaos when they did. We decided to pack up and head to my in-laws house in Bellville to attempt to beat the evacuation rush. (We were in the CRAZY traffic three years ago for Rita and weren't going to do that again!) We made it safe and sound with no traffic on Wednesday night.

The storm hit at 2 AM Satuday morning and out here, we just had a lot of wind and very little rain. We haven't lost power out here... thank goodness!

As for our house, we were SO blessed. Our trees were leaning slightly and some parts of our fence were down, but no structural damage at all! However, we, as everyone else are out of power..... with no idea of when we may get it back.

Jason's company is still trying to decide what they are going to do. Even though his office didn't lose power at all.... people can't get home, can't get gas and dont' have power at their homes. It's possible we may be put up in a hotel near his office later this week so that he can go to and from work.... we'll see!

I pray everyone made it through safely and that Galveston has a quick recovery!

Hurricane Ike!

Here's our friend Ike.... Jason's meteorologist at work is claiming the storm to hit in and around Galveston as a Cat. 4. There's still a lot of room for movement and changes, but with little Ben... we aren't taking any chances. We're packing up and heading out. We did the "sit in traffic for 14 hours to go less than 90 miles" gig three years ago for Rita. We aren't doing that again this time. Jason can work remotely tomorrow and Friday, so we're headed West. Say a prayer for the Texas coast!!!

Minute Maid Park

We went to Minute Maid Park (where the Astros play) today for our friends'/neighbors' oldest kiddo's birthday! We really enjoyed ourselves and got some priceless pictures of us with Ben. Our neighbor, Brock, works for the Astros... so he had a few extra perks for his kiddo. Every screen (including the huge one over the field) had running pictures of the birthday boy and company... it was really neat.

Ok, so here's how the trip to and from DFW went....

We were scheduled to leave Houston, Saturday at 11:20, after many, many delays from the weather, mechanical problems, etc, etc, etc... we FINALLY left Houston at 6:00PM and made it to DFW at about 6:45-7:00PM. It was a long exhausting day, but we made it and we were safe. No hard feelings. My wonderful baby boy was SOOOOOO good. He didn't make a peep in the airport or on the plane. I am so grateful to have such a good baby!

We had a wonderful visit. Unfortunately Pops had to work A TON while we were there and we didn't get to see him as much as we wanted to, but at least we got to spend some time with him. We spent Sunday, Monday and Tuesday shopping, hanging out, eating, watching movies and all kinds of fun stuff. It was a great trip. Thank you so much GranDonna and Pops!

Wednesday we were scheduled to leave DFW at 1:30.....let's just say it was a nightmare. My baby was still awesome despite the drama! We were hurried on the plane so that we could take off and quickly get to Houston in between storms. We sat on the plane for roughly 40 minutes with no A/C. They kept telling us there was a "small mechanical issue" that would be fixed in 15 minutes or less. Then they came back on the speaker and said that it would probaly take an hour to "replace a switch" and to deplane. They also said they would not be getting "valet checked" items from under the plane. So great, no stroller for Mr. Ben in the airport. On the way back out of the plane, poor Ben spit up all over me from being tossled around so much. Poor Guy!! Then, sitting at the gate... in the floor non-the-less... they came over and said the flight was cancelled with no chance to make it to Houston that day and to reschedule. Then they came over the loud speaker and announced that we needed to get all "valet checked" items "NOW" (as if they were going to take the plane away along with all those items. It was crazy. After a few choice phrases and a panicked call to my Momma we got a refund and rescheduled with Southwest for the following day. What a mess!!!
